Sounds of the Clyde

This idea will develop a knowledge and understanding of the elements of music, applying this to the compositional process. Young people will work independently, in pairs and in teams with the task of composing a piece of music in the style of Musique Concrete using the ‘Sounds of the Clyde’. They will present at a recital to peers/parents and with the guidance from a sound recordist and make a CD.

Broad Outcomes of learning

• Subject knowledge gained and enhanced through completing the creative process of composition
• Employability skills enhanced – application of knowledge in a real situation by observing work in a local recording studio
• Pupils take responsibility for their learning through making decisions about the structure, timbre, mood, style, melodic, rhythmic and harmonic elements used in their composition
• Learners have developed enterprising skills identified as 4 capacities of CfE
