A river of choice

Glasgow is the second largest shopping centre in the UK. The quality of the retail offering draws tourists and locals alike to seek out designer items or search for bargains. Two of the major shopping streets, Argyle Street and Buchanan Street are very close to the river, offering a huge amount of choice within easy walking distance of Glasgow’s two main line train stations.

In Argyle Street work has begun on a major refurbishment of the St Enoch Centre. The redevelopment of this flagship shopping mall is designed to create a city-centre destination not to be missed by serious shoppers.  A major new development at Glasgow Harbour has a major new shopping complex at the heart of an extensive regeneration project that includes housing and commercial development.

Across the river, the Braehead Shopping Centre has seen phenomenal success since it opened in 1999. A shopper’s heaven, the centre was built on a brown-field site close to the river and has around 1 million ft2 of shopping space and over 100 shops. In just seven years it has become one of Scotland’s most popular shopping destinations.

Clyde Waterfront is a strategic partnership of the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Glasgow City Council, Renfrewshire Council and West Dunbartonshire Council.
