Community benefits

A firm commitment to reduce inequality and address social exclusion is at the heart of all our efforts to transform the River Clyde.

There are numerous areas of multiple deprivation identified along and around Clyde Waterfront. Working with all our partners we are seeking to ensure that community development activity is linked to the economic opportunity created by this initiative. This activity will ensure that neighbourhoods are engaged in the entire redevelopment process.

As new jobs are created, training will be made available to ensure that local people are in a position to benefit from the new opportunities. A number of important initiatives are already under way:

  • Pathways to Work is a key Jobcentre Plus initiative
  • Local Community Planning Partnerships play a major role in delivering services throughout the area: Community Planning in West Dunbartonshire, Glasgow Community Planning Partnership
  • A number of other agencies provide services in Glasgow, such as Equal Access to Employment.

Other local projects that are supporting community benefit:
  • Govan Initiative
  • The Initiative - Gorbals Govanhill Toryglen
  • Paisley Partnership
  • Opportunities Ltd - Drumchapel and North Bank

Clyde Waterfront is a strategic partnership of the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, Glasgow City Council, Renfrewshire Council and West Dunbartonshire Council.
