5 a day

Healthy eating promotion

This project idea will develop a knowledge and understanding of healthy eating and how pupils can meet their ‘5 a day’ target through adding fruit and vegetables to their meals.  They will work with the school dining staff.  The dining staff will supply the food and facilitate in the project.  Winning idea will be part of selection in lunch provision.

Broad Outcomes of learning

• Subject knowledge gained and enhanced e.g. how pupils can improve their daily diet
• Enterprising skills improved by developing creativity, confidence, self awareness, positive attitude; increasing motivation to learning; taking responsibility and making decisions; raising achievement and fostering ambition
• Developed employability skills: communication, planning, organisation and researching
•Learners have developed 4 capacities of CfE

• Supports 5-14 Nutrition and Food Studies
• Relevance of how curriculum topic on healthy eating and ‘5 a day’ is relevant to work and life and how this subject knowledge is put into practice in a real situation
