The Tall Ship at Riverside Museum

Glenlee sets off for £1.7m facelift

The Tall Ship Glenlee left her home for the first time in 11 years as she was towed to a dry dock in Greenock. The move was made to allow the next stage of her £1.7million facelift to take place.

The ship is a Glasgow landmark and attracts 35,000 visitors a year.

The ship’s refurbishment is taking place before she moves to the Riverside Museum next year. Already 600 tonnes of ballast have been removed, a green heating system installed and an education area built.

She will remain in Greenock, where she will be cleaned and repainted, until September 6 when she will return to the Glasgow Harbour.
