Clean up the Clyde

Pupils will research responsible waste disposal, reduce, reuse and recycle strategies and campaigns to clean up Glasgow. They will identify key areas on the Clyde and, where possible, visit key points around the Clyde to look at waste. Pupils will apply the findings from this to designing and producing a bin and posters to support the campaign to clean up the Clyde.

Outcomes of learning

• Pupils research and develop knowledge and understanding of both the design process and the importance of responsible waste disposal
• Pupils will have experienced working in small groups on a single task and applying findings in the context of a real issue i.e. waste disposal
• Develop employability skills including communication skills, planning, organisation, researching, analysing, co-operating and contributing
• Pupils will work in small groups independent of the teacher on all aspects of tasks. Pupils will ask for support from teacher where required
• Pupils take responsibility for their learning through making decisions all aspects of the design process
• Pupils have developed enterprising skills identified as 4 capacities of CfE

Relevance to curriculum

• Supports 5-14 Expressive Arts, Science, Technology and Health and well-being
• The project is relevant to aspects of the above curricula as applicable in a real context
• Pupils will work to a design brief and produce a prototype product supplemented with campaign materials
